Richard Shaughnessy
Cape Author, World Skeet Champion
1920-2005


Richard "Dick" Shaughnessy of Dennis MA, published author and eight-time World Skeet Champion, died at Cape Cod Hospital on May 16, 2005.

Dick was born and raised in Dedham, MA. He graduated from Dedham High School.

At 14 years of age, Dick won the Junior National Skeet Championship.

Dick won his first World Skeet Championship in 1936, when he won the 12 gauge event. His many world championships included wins in the HOA, 12, 20, 28, .410, & Champion of Champions.

He served in the Army Air Corps as a gunnery sergeant and won several military skeet championships.

At 27, Dick was the only person ever to have won All-American Championships in both skeet & trap. He was inducted into the National Skeet Hall of Fame & the National Trap Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the Minuteman Sportsmens' Club of Burlington, MA, a member of the Massachusetts Ambulance Association, a sales rep for Weatherby firearms, a published author, and a great friend.
